2 July - We spent the day at Punsand Bay washing and playing on
the beach generally having a rest.
3 July - Early the next day we headed up a rough, bumpy road to
the tip of Australia! We got there in
time to have the place almost to ourselves.
There was a rocky path up over a hill and down to the sea. A
sign right on the edge of the surging water says “
You are now standing on the northern most point of the Australian Continent”. We
took lots of photos to prove that we were there.

We saw a German lady with her bike at the tip of
Australia. She had ridden it all the way
from Germany (except she caught a boat from Hong Kong to Australia). She must have eaten an awful lot of dust to
get up there.

Hamish saw a turtle in the water. We had put extra rocks on all the huge cairns
along the path to the tip. This inspired each of us to make our own cairn of
rocks. Dad names his “Duncairn”.

Near the tip is an abandoned resort. We went exploring through it and found a
massive pool which still had water in it but most of it was falling down and
being taken over by plants. It would
have been really nice once upon a time.
From there we went to a place called Somerset. It was once going to be the “Singapore of
Australia” but someone didn’t do their homework. You can only fit 4 ships into the harbour and
the place was not on the general shipping route so the place was a flop.
We had lunch on a pretty beach though and found a few
coconuts. The first one had sour, rotten
milk inside but the next one was dry inside but the flesh was really yummy.
